| Reviews of Vancouver Wedgewood Hotel |
I've stayed here four times in the last 10 years or so and this is easily
one of my top 10 favourite hotels.
Vancouver is a great city and a stay at the Wedgewood is worth every penny. Each
of our stays have been as memorable as the last. During our last stay we booked
upgraded accommodations that included a separate bedroom and living area - as
good as any suite in a four or five star hotel.
Although the environs and décor are most certainly that of a luxurious
establishment we felt right at home and welcomed dressed and acting like
tourists. The lobby and front desk staff were quite friendly and helpful with
the check-in process and handling of our luggage.
Rooms are large, spacious and comfortable and there's never any noise heard from
other guests - this is a solidly built hotel. The amenities are plentiful - and
some even very unique, like the jogging map printed on a piece of stiff paper in
the shape of a running shoe complete with a white shoelace tied to it. After a
long day out doing touristy things in and about Vancouver it's great to come
back to a room with a jacuzzi tub and a bed so comfortable you drift off to
sleep in no time at all.
The location is excellent as well and no matter what the weather we've found it
easy to get around without having to have our own car. Four blocks and a few
minutes' walk to the east and you are at the waterfront, Canada Place, the
cruise ship terminal and a SkyTrain stop. From there ferries to North Vancouver
only take 12 minutes. In the other direction albeit a little further it's still
a reasonable walk to the Aquabus shuttle to Granville Island. 10 minutes to the
north you can rent 10 and 15 speed bikes and enjoy an hour or a day's ride in
Stanley Park and around the city.
One of Vancouver's more acclaimed restaurants is also at the Wedgewood: the
4-star Bacchus Restaurant. If you'd like to enjoy some exquisite French cuisine
best to make reservations early as this restaurant is always busy. For us we had
such a memorable meal during our stay four years prior we booked with the
Bacchus for our final departing dinner. And four years later we again had a most
wonderful meal. But even more interestingly we had the same waiter who actually
remembered us from our previous visit!
After our departure I took the time to fill out one of those typical guest
comment cards like you find in most hotels. Although I had no complaints I was
surprised that I actually received a brief note back from the property's manager
- a nice touch indeed.
Though I usually look for hotel properties where we can earn our frequent
guest points with - whilst in Vancouver we'll always opt for the Wedgewood
Hotel.
We stayed at this delightful hotel for 3 nights in September, 2006 just before
boarding our cruise ship.
It is in a wonderful position, close to all the shops and we were given a lovely
front room. We had a weekend package with bed and breakfast which we felt was
good value.
The only downside was that we ate in their Bacchus Restaurant one night and we
felt the meal was rushed. We were out within 45 minutes which to us was far too
rapid. We do like to linger over a meal especially when we are paying top
dollar.
That is our only criticism of a great hotel.
The Wedgewood staff made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived and made
us feel that nothing was too much trouble. They continued to look after our
every need with efficiency we had not experienced elsewhere in Canada for the
duration of our short stay. The rooms were large and very comfortable, the staff
knowledgeable and friendly and the food was some of the best we ate on our three
week trip; this was made more enjoyable by the eagerness of the restaurant staff
to adapt meals to suit dietary requirements / whims!
I couldn't recommend the Wedgewood highly enough as a very luxurious and
comfortable base to explore Vancouver from whether it is for business or
pleasure. If i return to Vancouver I will definitely be giving the Wedgewood a
call! |
