This used to be a nice, fair value hotel. It's low value now.
Much of their business comes from endless buses of Japanese and Chinese
tourists, all on package tours. I guess they don't need the independent traveler
anymore since they have so many rooms pre-sold.
They now ask an extra ten bucks to use the gym, there are never any advertised
upgrades for platinum Starwood cardholders like myself - and they will nickel
and dime you all the time... example: coffee pot in room had cracked and had
glass chips in it. maid missed that, I had just checked in, I called front desk
to be told I was liable for all damages (?)
Advertised services are hit or miss, staff too busy to run the complimentary car
drop off service, turn down service happens maybe every third night... they're
maximizing profit by being understaffed.
Go to one of the Fairmont's - better service and value in Vancouver.
My Daughter and I stayed at the Wall Hotel in Downtown Vancouver for eleven
nights, it was a great Hotel and the service was top class, the staff went out
of there way to make sure your stay was perfect.
The rooms were exceptionally clean and bright due to the floor to ceiling
windows, they consist of two queen beds I have never slept in such a comfortable
bed before, we had fantastic views from the 24th floor, we could see the snow
capped mountains, Downtown Vancouver and out as far as the Pacific Ocean.
The location is ideal for all the main shops and restaurants; the people are
very friendly, I liked the way that pedestrians have the right of way at
crossings, traffic is so curtias in the City.
We used all the leisure amenities i.e.: -Pool Sauna Gym ect. They are well set
out.
The taxi's and transport are quite reasonable; we also used the Sky train and
sea bus which run regular so they is not much waiting time.
We dined at the Cloud 9 (rotating restaurant) the menu food and service was very
good, the views from the Restaurant were breathtaking.
We also enjoyed a couple of evenings at the 941 tapes bar on Davie Street which
is only a short walk away from the hotel, this is a small place with only about
a dozen tables but the atmosphere is great for all ages, the food and the wine
are so good that we could not fault the place, it is defiantly a place to visit
when you are in the area.
We would defiantly return to the Sheraton wall Centre; I look forward to my next
stay.
I was worried at first when we discovered that our room was in the South
Tower after reading reviews on here but I was pleasantly surprised. The room was
large and had a king size bed which was incredibly comfortable. The shower was
gorgeous as it had just about the right amount of power to relax. The view was
good even though we were only on the 8th floor. The staff could not have done
more, nothing was too much trouble and the check-in desk staff were
exceptionally efficient. There are some great restaurants near the hotel, if you
like Thai food I would suggest going to a place called Salai Thai about 5
minutes walk from the hotel, the food was lovely and very reasonably priced.
Also, if you like steak and a good atmosphere go to Moxies and I really suggest
going to Earls on Robson Street for lunch. To sum up we really enjoyed our stay
and this hotel is so near to everything you would want to do. Highly
recommended.
Stayed here again for a conference. Stayed in the North Tower, which is the
more modern, more recently renovated tower and has slightly better rooms than
the South Tower. Beware also that the SPG floors are generally in the older
South Tower so be sure to ask for North Tower rooms. If you can be upgraded for
your Starwood status, try to get one of the corner rooms that have wrap around
glass and incredible views. Location is nice too. Very little option for eating
on premises. The restaurant in the north tower is basically only open for
breakfast. The Lobby bar serves light food at night if you are desperate. Room
service was very expensive and food quality was poor. Free bottled water in the
room daily for Starwood preferred guests. No mini bars - but they do have
refrigerators which you can stock yourself.
Be mindful of your valuables - while at the conference, my best friend had her
room broken into and her credit cards were stolen and used for local purchases.
One of the conference planners also found her room door partly ajar when she
returned in the late afternoon after it had been serviced/cleaned. Make sure you
lock your valuables, wallets and passports in the in-room safe.
My Daughter and I stayed at the Sheraton Vancouver - Wall Centre Hotel from
the 11th to the21st November 2008, it was the most comfortable and friendly
hotel I have stayed in for a while, the staff went out there way to help you
nothing was too much trouble.
The rooms are large with two queen size beds, we were on the 24th floor and the
views we could see from our window of the snow covered mountains and English bay
/ Pacific and most of Downtown Vancouver, were breathtaking, I would defiantly
stay there again.
The Restaurants I would recommend are Cloud 9 off Robinson St (rotating
Restaurant) the views are amazing, most of all the food is tops a good variety
menu, need to book your table as it can get very busy later in the evening.
Also for a change try the Tapas bar :-BIN 941 in Davie Street, they do not take
bookings, but its well worth the visit.
It was our first visit to Vancouver, overall we fell in love with the city,
friendly people great shops and we used the Sea bus ,sky train and Taxis to get
around and found them all reasonable, as two woman travelling on our own around
Vancouver we felt very safe, even on the evenings, no need to take fancy clothes
they all seem to prefer casual dress. |
